Vital Force and the Organon: A Critical Analysis of §§ 9–16

The concept of the vital force (Lebenskraft) as articulated in §§9–16 of the Organon of Medicine has attracted both devoted adherents and sceptical critics. For the former, it represents an indispensable theoretical foundation for understanding homoeopathic action; for the latter, it represents an outdated vitalism at odds with modern biomedicine.

This analysis neither defends nor attacks the vital force doctrine but instead attempts a careful philosophical reading of what Hahnemann actually claimed, distinguishing between his functional and metaphysical assertions.
